Dr. Meyers with Mo’ne Davis and Scott Bandura at the Up2Us Sports annual gala at the IAC Building in New York. Congrats to Mo’ne and Anderson Monarch’s coach Steve Bandura for being honored with their Up2Us Sports Legacy Award! They are a great example of what a positive player-coach relationship can do, both on and off the field. We were honored to sponsor the Anderson Monarch’s Barnstorming Tour in 2012 when we first met Steve, Mo’ne and the rest of the amazing team of coaches and kids.
16 tenth grade students in the medical track at Audenreid High, with their teacher, Jorja Darby, got to step into the shoes of medical professionals at Vincera Institute through Vincera Foundation’s Jocks2Docs program. Our Jocks2Doc program aims to create opportunity for youth to experience the multifaceted field of sports medicine, promoting awareness of the many career pathways within the field. Audenreid first participated in Jocks2Docs when Vincera visited the high school to teach an interactive class about sports injuries. Students in the class learned how to determine and prepare a SOAP (subjective, objective, assessment, and plan) note when examining patients as well as how to share it with those professionals along a patient’s care path.
On November 3, Vincera hosted a pilot Professional Development Symposium. They brought together The Philadelphia School Athletic Office, Up2Us, and Black Women in Sports Foundation centered around the theme “The Power of Culture and Coach.”
The goal was to work with a cadre of administrators and top coaches in improving the athletic culture, skill development, preparation, and programs for Philadelphia School District students. They served and highlighted the career path of coach as essential in the sports based youth development process.
Presenters included:
Robert Coleman, Executive Director, Philadelphia School District Athletics
Claire Perry, Philadelphia Director, Up2Us
Sakora Miller, Up2Us Trained and Squash Smarts Coach
Lynsey Grace & Marirose Roach, Coaches
Dr. Marc Legere, Director, Jocks2Docs program
Dean Millard, Physical Therapist, Vincera Rehab
Vincera Foundation, the Horner Foundation and Philanthropy Network partnered to host the third Sports-Based Youth Development Conversation. We welcomed special guest Paul Caccamo, President and Founder of Up2Us, a nationwide leader in sports-based youth development. Paul came armed with staff and trained coaches to demonstrate the impact their Coaches Across America program has had in training and professionalizing the role of coaching in sports-based youth development across the country.
Coach Across America (CAA) places and trains the nation’s best and brightest role models to bring sports-based youth development to our most underserved communities. Their coaches inspire children to be leaders and contributing members of their communities. CAA coaches understand that every program session, practice or game is a chance to positively impact a child’s future.
Their lively discussion and demonstration created great buzz and interest in bringing their program to Philadelphia.
Vincera Foundation was happy to host the 3rd annual Students Run Philly Style Summer Bootcamp! The experts at Vincera Institute lead the students in warm-up exercises and stretching (pictured above), yoga, and bootcamp style cross training exercises. The bootcamp has proven to be a favorite among the SRPS students and this year was no exception. We had over 120 students there for an evening of fun and trying activities. The SRPS program connects students with adult mentors who help them accomplish goals beyond their dreams, including the completion of the Philadelphia Marathon in November. Since 2004 Students Run Philly Style has served over 4000 students, ages 12-18, from neighborhoods across Philadelphia. We are proud to support such a great program!
