Audenreid High visits Vincera Institute to Explore Sports Medicine Careers

16 tenth grade students in the medical track at Audenreid High, with their teacher, Jorja Darby, got to step into the shoes of medical professionals at Vincera Institute through Vincera Foundation’s Jocks2Docs program.  Our Jocks2Doc program aims to create opportunity for youth to experience the multifaceted field of sports medicine, promoting awareness of the many career pathways within the field. Audenreid first participated in Jocks2Docs when Vincera visited the high school to teach an interactive class about sports injuries. Students in the class learned how to determine and prepare a SOAP (subjective, objective, assessment, and  plan) note when examining patients as well as how to share it with those professionals along a patient’s care path.

Yesterday students visited Vincera Institute, a specialty medical facility for sports injuries at The Navy Yard to further experience the spectrum of career pathways in sports medicine. Touring the comprehensive center, including physicians’ offices, a diagnostic imaging center, surgery center and rehab facility, students were able to see the range of medical career opportunities within the field of sports medicine and talk with all of the professionals throughout the facility who fulfill those roles every day at Vincera. The hands on experience allowed students to gain insight into the careers they may pursue.
